Oh for hecks sake! I gave up diet coke while in the hospital but after our little camping 'adventure' this last weekend i am now back to drinking it by the truck load! Actually im giving it up on monday when i start my dumb diet uh lifestyle change. Monday is dh's birthday and it would be rude not to share his cake right? Right. So,yesterday i go to the dr to beg her to release me to go back to work (i volunteer at the distribution center). She suggests i may want to lose weight (what?does she think im FAT? HAHAHAHA) so im taking the still legal part of phenphen starting monday and im pretty sure ill be skinny by next month. So.. WHY did i fall off the wagon?let me tell you. I missed most of the summer fun cos i was quarantined in the hospital with pneumonia and some funky virus, then home on oxygen and a nebuliser.so for labor day we planned to go to veyo. Veyo is a beautiful place nr here that has trees... real ones, as in green. It has a river that kids catch crawdads in and a pool that is always 87* cos its fed from a natural spring. I love this place. But the scouts had other plans and since dh is over the 12/13 yr olds who 'needed' to pass off their water sports merit badge our neighbor decided they would do it on labor day. Now,since dad is in scouts the rest of the kids think this entitles them to anything fun,and since we are too poor to have a boat, the vote was to dump veyo and head to sand hollow to go boating.I whined as much as i could then finally gave in.. at least we would get to camp.I love camping, usually we camp somewhere far enough away that the older kids cell phones done work and we all have a great time playing games, having hot chocolate etc then dad reads everyone to sleep. yeah... well..heres what happened this time. By the time we left for the lake it was late on Sunday (yeah yeah i know im prob being reprimanded for breaking the sabbath). We tossed all the camping stuff in the van, packed everyone in and after at least 3 false starts we were on our way. Then dh missed the exit, now Hurricane (pronouced huuuuuurkin anywhere but here lol)is in the middle of nowhere so the next exit is on the outer edges of nowhere. By the time we got to the campsite it was about dark but the nice ranger took our money and even upgraded us from 'primitive beach camping' to the lower camp ground. I was reasonably cheered up til i realized this meant if you walked far enough through the sage brush you could find a bathroom as opposed to a portapotty . So no one could read the lake map and two phone calls and 30 mins later we found our 'campsite',by which time it was dark.We had a least 4ft by 5 ft of lovely red sand and 47 sagebushes under which i was sure was at least one rattle snake with its wife and family. So with me and Michaela holding flashlights we attempted to put up the tent, then we attempted two more times. I have been blessed to be called mom by many of my kids friends which i consider a huge honor. Thankfully we took an extra son with us who helped immensely while his best friend texted Finally dad took away his phone and the tent got put up. Steve and Zac informed me that they wanted to sleep under the stars and i briefly considered the rattlesnake issue but i was so frazzled i asked if any of the other kids wanted to join them :) In the end i was coughing so hard that i slept in the back of the van and was lucky enough to be awake when the sun was coming up over the most beautiful lake. It was incredible!! Our tent was mostly collapsed, two of our boys were sleeping on a picnic table(dont ask)but for at least 5 mins life was perfect. Then the diesel truck parked across from us fired up so he could get his very nice looking boat on the water before everyone else. We cooked breakfast and met up with the rest of the kids at 8:30-at least two hours after the first 80 boaters lol. We found a beautiful new beach and the kids had a great day on the water,by the time we got home most were tired and sunburned.Ryan and i showered and went with some friends to an 'adults only' dinner -very rare, but needed. It was prob the nicest restaurant ive eaten at,very posh. The people at the next table had a diet coke and i felt like a druggie waiting for a fix until mine finally arrived. After five refills i realised i might never sleep again and that id fallen off the wagon :)
In my defense ive only had a couple since and im still drinking enough water to float my eyeballs out of my head.
